After a year I just love this product

I initially bought this product to watch sky on sky go away from home and to give airplay mirroring at home. I now use it most of the time to stream, even though Sky Q has the same functionality. (Use sky log ins for Netflix and Paramount) It is just so slick to use and makes swapping between services so much easier. The speed of it is so much quicker than Sky Q and in built apps. Picture quality seems better than in built apps on my tv. I am so impressed thinking of buying a second one. Just a shame sky go is not full HD and bbc UHD is not compatable. .

I was using a smart TV before for apps like Netflix, Hulu, HBO, and it worked OK. Using the Apple TV is so much faster and the picture is so much better than just using the TV features. The Apple TV was a little pricey, but I think worth it in my opinion for the performance and the picture quality. It does have Dolby Atmos, which is a nice feature if your TV supports it. It is also very small and compact so it takes up very little space which is nice.

Minimalistic and fast

I like how simple it is. No ads and unnecessary clutter of apps. Because of its minimalist design, it boots up quickly and starts apps fast. My Samsung QD-OLED was cluttered and riddled with ads and lagged severely because of it. This device solved that problem. The only downside would be for people not familiar with IOS devices and that they removed the USB slot from prior versions. All in all, if you are looking for a no frills, simple streaming device, this would be perfect for you.

Strong hardware + UX-focus = streaming heaven

The Apple TV 4K is a phenomenal over-the-top (OTT) media streaming device. Though many will say all streamers are the same, the fact of the matter is the ATV4K's hardware far exceeds the speed and UX of every competitor, save possibly the nVidia Shield Pro. I own the Chromecast Ultra, Roku Premiere and Firestick 4K, but none of them have the snappy response and sheer power to keep up with this device. Moreover, it supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos and, when connected to Movies Anywhere, will allow you to unlock iTunes Extras on your movie library (amazing feature that mimics the menu structure of physical discs to allow you to explore bonus content on movies like behind the scenes featurettes or making-of content). I have purchased three of these so far and will continue to do so until Apple demonstrably upgrades the hardware (the ATV4K 2021 has, more or less, the same SOC as this unit). If anything, buy the new Siri Remote and pair it with one of these for the best of both worlds.

A great streaming device, but you pay for it

We cut the cord and have Apple TVs all around the house connected to our TVs. We recently upgraded our older Apple TV to this 4K Apple TV. As with all Apple products, it is incredibly easy to use and works flawlessly. If you have other Apple products, such as iPHones, Apple Watches and HomePods, then it becomes a no-brainer to have the Apple TV for streaming device. The App store is huge and complete (Roku didn't have HBO Max for months), has snappy performance and outputs a great picture. One of the best features is Airplay 2 support, since it allows you to set up extension speakers wirelessly. Our home theater is in our family room, which is connected to our kitchen. If someone is cooking in the kitchen, then they can't hear the TV unless the volume is turned up, which makes it uncomfortable for people in the family room. The Apple TV provides sound through the HDMI for the family room receive and simultaneously transmits over Airplay to a HomePod Mini we set up in the kitchen. This way, the person in the kitchen can hear the TV and not bother the people in the family room with uncomfortable volume levels. The only down side with the Apple TV is the relatively high cost relative to competitors like Roku.

Start by saying i am not an apple fan. But i have tried all the atreaming sticks as well as just using my lg c1 built in apps. This is by far the best picture and oeast amount of ads in a streamer yet. Everything is nice and streamlined. A few issues though is the hdr, especially dobly vision has some issues playing correctly especially on apple tv content like ted lasso. Also a few apps like crunchyroll will force you to use the paid version. Overall it is a great picture and easy to use that i can overlook a few flaws.

Sales Assistant should know better!

While it works well I wish the JB HiFi sales assistant had have explained that there was a wired option, rather than just providing a WiFi version. I have ethernet cabling through the house and the older Apple TV box was plugged into that infrastructure. I asked for a replacement box and was given the WiFi version with a simple explanation that the other option simply had greater storage capacity. No mention of anything else. Not impressed here.

A Love-Hate Relationship

Although The Apple TV easily outperforms its cheaper competitors, trying to operate it can drive you nuts. First, here are the good points. Streaming is fast and flawless. The picture is gorgeous, and the glitches that pervade other streaming devices are conspicuously absent. There is no input lag with the remote; no audio dropout regardless of your wireless network; and, as long as your network is reasonably fast, there are no buffering issues. The Apple TV works the way that all streaming devices should work. However, it's the little things that get under your skin. Let's overlook the fact that it costs about twice as much as its priciest competitor. If you buy Apple products, you expect to overpay. However, why Apple doesn't even offer a web browser app as an option is beyond me. If you want to stream content from a provider that doesn't have a dedicated Apple app, you are just out of luck. The absence of a web browser isn't necessarily a deal-killer, but including one would have been so simple and inexpensive. It just seems that there is no justification for creating this conflict. The absolute worst thing about this generation of Apple TVs is the remote. It is far and away the worst one that I have ever used, and it is difficult to imagine that human beings tested it and concluded that it worked well and was what people would like. Like most Apple remotes, this one is too small, making it slippery and difficult to even hold. However, its worst design element is the touchpad that replaces the traditional arrows with an "Enter" button in the middle. Trying to get the cursor to lock in on the icon or alphanumeric character that you want is an exercise in futility. The cursor seems to stubbornly adhere to an adjacent icon, and when you finally get it to move, it jumps over the icon you wanted and sticks to another adjacent icon. When you finally get it on the icon you wanted, pressing the touchpad to accept your selection will often cause the cursor to move off the icon it was on, thereby accepting a nearby one that you did not want, forcing you to delete that entry and try again. Trying to type in a search or enter a password takes 2 -3 times as long on the Apple TV as it does on my Amazon Fire TV, and by the time I've completed this arduous task, I often find that I've lost all desire to watch anything on this infuriating device. Apple seems to have realized after the fact that buyers were displeased with this remote, as evidenced by the fact that it has been modified on the latest versions of this device. I also notice that they have not offered to replace this garbage remote with a more user-friendly version for those of us who purchased this generation device. The good news is that there is no reason to put yourself through this frustration. The new version of Apple TV is now available, and it only costs $20 more. Buying this older model is false economy and will make you rue your decision. Just pay the extra $20 for the new version. You'll be so glad that you did.

I recently added the Apple TV 4K to my home entertainment setup, and I must say it's nothing short of amazing. Apple has once again delivered a product that sets the bar high. The picture quality on this device is absolutely stunning. With support for 4K HDR content and Dolby Atmos, it feels like a cinema experience right in my living room. The colors are vibrant, and the clarity is impeccable. Whether I'm streaming my favorite shows or watching the latest blockbuster, The visuals are breathtaking. What truly sets the Apple TV 4K apart is its integration with the Apple ecosystem. The seamless connection to my iPhone, iPad, and Mac is a game-changer. AirPlay allows me to effortlessly share content from my other Apple devices to the TV, and the Siri Remote makes navigation a breeze. Plus, the App Store offers a wide range of apps and games to enhance my entertainment choices. Setting up the Apple TV 4K was a breeze, and the user interface is intuitive. It's also worth noting that Apple regularly updates its tvOS, ensuring that the device stays current and introduces new features. If you're looking for a top-notch streaming device that offers exceptional picture quality, seamless integration with Apple devices, and a user-friendly interface, the Apple TV 4K is an absolute winner. It's another testament to Apple's commitment to excellence, and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

Expensive but I really like it

Bought this as I needed something to make an older TV smart. It cost loads compared to Amazon fire stick or Google Chromecast but I've a MacBook and IPad and really like those. Bottom line is it's great, It's really really fast to start a TV app, displays my iPhone photos and has a very easy user interface (unlike the more confusing google interface on my Sony smart TV). Picture quality and sound is brilliant. I think on a cost per use basis I can justify that mad high price to myself. It's very small and discrete and the remote is a nice solid metal with very easy controls - it's also rechargeable. I saw some complaints that the remote keeps disconnecting but I haven't experienced that. Definitely more of a treat than a must have but so far I'm very pleased with it.
