I loved this watch until the back glass sensor fell off and the watch stopped working after 4 months of use. I sent it back to Samsung for warranty repair and was told it was not covered under warranty because the damage was caused due to water damage. My watch was never in water. After a hot sweaty bike ride I removed my watch and the back sensor glass piece was stuck to my arm exposing the insides of the watch. The watch had powered down during this bike ride as well. Samsung quoted me ($219.79) for the repair, which was more than I paid for the watch when new. When I tried to reason with the Samsung rep she just kept repeating that this was due to water damage and not covered by warranty. I did some research online regarding this issue and found that many others have experienced this exact same issue. Even more surprising is that I read numerous times that this has been a problem with previous versions of Samsung watches. This glass piece is held on by a round adhesive seal, which obviously over time when doing hot sweaty exercise the adhesive fails. This is a design flaw that Samsung has ignored to address. If it were not for this issue I would still be loving this watch. This watch is marketed as an Active Sports watch - what a joke.
I work in the tech industry myself and it blows my mind this is the second one and its just as terrible as the first. I purchased the first one around its launch but I returned it within the 15 days due to what I was told was a defect which was fine it happenes, but waited abit more time incase it was a major release defect with most of the watches. So then I bought my second one March 2020 and I had nothing but problems, not like the first one but actually worse - battery lasts maybe 6-8 hours, features (always on lte and always tracking heart rate) drained the watch insanely fast. OH and what really got me on this I need the heart tracker and well if you have tattoos or at least colored ones, It will not detect your heart rate which I was very disappointed with only works on my opposing wrist which is not tattooed. The watch doesn't always alert me when I get text messages, only sometimes. So I submitted through manufacturer warranty they repaired the battery and it worked well for 1 or 2 days then back to crap battery. So I submitted again and the watch came back with some other repair which still didn't fix the issue. Super disappointed in this product and the reoccurring issue, sadly wouldn't recommend.
My overall verdict for this smart watch is very good. Like every piece of tech, it has its positives, but also its negatives. I've owned the Galaxy Watch Active 2 for around a year and a half now, and I think it's fair to say I've put it through its paces too. Overall, I think it's a pretty solid smartwatch for its price range; I'd recommend it to anyone buying a smartwatch for the first time with an orientation for workouts and exercise. However, It does have room for improvement. Firstly, the main reason to buy this watch is its wide array of fitness functions, on the whole, it performs admirably. This watch using the built-in Samsung Health app comes with a very wide array of fitness functions (cycling, running, treadmill, etc) and within each comes a fully customizable set of menus which are fantastic. In addition, the watches Samsung Health App is more or less identical to Samsung Health on your phone, meaning you can track everything from sleep to calories. However, the technicalities are where you run into issues. Firstly, the battery drain when tracking workouts is significant, about an hour of cardio exercise can drain you anywhere from 10% to 30%, (values vary depending on certain factors) however I noted it to be significantly poor. This point is strengthened with everyday use, if you workout at the gym, and plan on using this device a fair amount during the day for notifications, messages, etc, then you definitely will not be getting anywhere near the quoted two-day battery life. Especially after around 6 months of use, where I noticed a random drop in battery life from around two days and a half days of light/moderate use to just barely two days. Secondly, the watches sensors aren't brilliant, 75% of the time they work just fine, but that remaining 25% exposes you to an erratic, unpredictable and inconsistent mess. For example, when beginning a workout such as a hike or walk, sometimes the workout will completely cancel for no reason, leaving you with disappointing workout results of 17 seconds with 1 calorie burned. In addition, when running or even just measuring your heart rate, the sensors are sometimes way off. I've even compared it to my friend's Apple Watch Series 4 which gave consistent readings each time, compared to this watches sometimes long and unreliable readings. Furthermore, when using workouts such as dumbbells, the built-in detector for each rep is often wrong. Finally, just a general observation about the watches Samsung Health App: a few months ago, the app received an update that updated the overall appearance of the app. On the whole, it was very good, everything was sleeker, more functional, however, it removed one of my favourite features; having the centre value on the workout display being a bold green colour, which really helped identify that particular readout from the others. Sadly, it was removed and a more boring and dull colour took its place. Thirdly, despite these somewhat negative points, this watch is also brilliant. In terms of setup, the process couldn't be easier, and sleeker. The pairing process takes around 3 to 5 minutes and the Galaxy Wearable App that manages the device is fantastic. It's on another level compared to Apple's pitiful attempt. While the app can be a little laggy when switching between it and other apps, the app itself is beautiful and efficiently categorised. Just about everything is controllable through the app, with customisations and cool features for literally every occasion. Samsung honestly did a great job with this app. Onto the watch itself, the screen is significantly larger (around 20%) compared to the Active, and the bezel surrounding the display is very responsive. However, I'm not sure if this is limited to my watch but the Active seems to have a crisper and more colourful display, and seemingly better performance when switching between icons. In addition to this, the screen is where you run into more problems. I took it swimming and pretty much straight away I put a small scratch in the display which completely ruins the clean and sleek look of the watch face - if you get this device, invest in a screen protector! I always find myself worrying about hitting it against walls and objects. For everyday tasks like notifications, reminders etc, this watch really excels, Samsung has incorporated animations to make the process seamless, even for third party applications. When calling on this device, the audio output through the built-in speakers are good, volume-wise they're pretty loud, however towards the top end the audio really degrades, the microphone quality I've been told is second to none, most people can't differentiate between a mobile phone and this jewel. The watch faces are all good - enough. Some are good, others seem a little rushed and designed by a 7-year-old. Apps for this device are good, and you can install a variety of third-party applications too, most of which are paid for and don't seem to be very refined. Samsung's built-in applications such as clock, and weather are all pretty good, nothing to rave about though. Also, the Bluetooth connection can be a tad patchy, sometimes cutting out and even requiring a restart. Build quality and hardware-wise, I would say overall very good. The strap mechanism is brilliant and sophisticated, I've never had any issues with it, It's well built and is easy to remove. However, will need occasional cleaning due to built-up sweat and moisture etc. The main body itself is good, a little fragile but robust enough, be careful of the glass heartrate sensor, scratches could reduce the performance. The included wireless charger is very good, a full charge takes around 1 hour 50 to 2 hours. Overall, It's a good watch, especially compared to its counterparts. Its price range seems to be a sweet spot. However, I do find myself rooting for a newer, and more refined Apple Watch, so unless Samsung up the game with new features and performance, they could be losing the battle very soon. If you want to stick with Samsung, I would also recommend the Galaxy Watch, especially for men. Its more robust and defiant characteristics appeal more to me as a male. All things considered, It's a very good watch for first-timers, and exercise is definitely a strong suit. I recommend this product.
The back portion where the heart monitor is came off. I took it off the charger and noticed the back portion was still stuck to the magnetic charger but the rest of the watch came off. It's almost three years old. It is also very glitchy. I often have to restart it to get certain functions to work. Loved it for the first year. After that I started having issues. The watch has never been submerged in water and I am very diligent with keeping it clean.
I love that it tracks my steps and other fitness activities and also really enjoy the heart rate feature. I also like the convenience of using it to answer phone calls and quick texts without having to dig around for my phone. But this watch is very sensitive and will stop tracking my workout if I am very sweaty, sometimes even locking up so i have to do a hard shutdown. And it often crashes mid-workout for no apparent reason, so I look at my watch and realize it isn't even recording it anymore. Probably wouldn't buy again based on that. Half the reason I have this watch is so I can have an accurate record of my workouts, so really there isn't much point in using it when I can't rely on it.
As a smartwatch, this is an outstanding choice. The watch is well made, it has a lot of useful features and settings. As a activity tracker, quite frankly is sucks. Here are the features I like: built-in microphone so you can answer a phone call, speech-to-text text message replies, music controls and alarms. Now for what I don't like... I used before this and I feel like it was far more accurate in tracking sleep and activity. The Active 2 tracks my sleep properly about half the time. Some days it says it couldn't get a good reading even though I wear it close to the skin as I should. If it does track, I don't always feel like it's accurate. Sometimes when I'm doing nothing out of the ordinary it goes into workout mode. And then finally, the battery life. With a FitBit I got spoiled on charging it every other day or every 2 days. Because of the features of this watch, it has to be charged everyday. It does have a helpful battery saver mode but that takes away 99% of the features you're going to buy it for. No voice texting or replying of any kind and no use of the apps or watch faces. I bought this used at a deep discount. I'm very thankful I didn't buy this new because it's not really worth the price tag to me.
I had this watch for 1.5 years and LOVED IT but the back of the watch and sensor basically disintegrated while wearing it after overheating and leaving a red mark on my wrist. It gave me a message when I realized it was burning my wrist that said this watch is overheating and will now turnoff. Sounds like a common problem when I look at other reviews online. Samsung is not willing to address or fix. I WAS Samsung all the way tablet, watch, and phone but not anymore. Shame on you Samsung. Also agree with others watch did not work when too far away from phone.
the watch just shut off randomly yesterday and refused to turn on. at first, i thought it was the battery even know i knew it shouldn't be dead, so i charged it. it still won't turn on. i've only had this for 14 months, and now it won't work. of course, my warranty has expired, so i will have to pay out of pocket to fix it. i used this for the bare minimum. though it's waterproof, i hardly ever use it in water. i don't use it for much of anything; just track my steps, sometimes for exercise when i remember to turn it on and for text. if they don't fix things, they will be losing lots of customers i am not a happy customer at all right now. battery life also sucks by the way so safe your money and invest in something else. this watch is not it
I loved this watch and used it daily to track my workouts. The battery doesn't last all day however I charge it when sitting at my desk while working. Unfortunately I used it to track a swimming workout for the first time today and now it no longer works. It switched off and won't come back on again. It is advertised that this watch can be used while swimming. So where do I get it fixed now?
I've had this watch around 6 months, and I love it! I have never owned a smartwatch before, and I had been looking at different smart watches, and decided to go with this one because of the price, design and the color. It has many different features, and is easy to navigate and customize. Setting it up and linking it to my phone was a breeze. The operation is smooth, the bezel works very well, it has many different faces to choose from, along with different bands to change the look if you are in the mood for a change. I bought it mainly for the fitness features, and it has made me realize that I needed to be more active. I have daily goals set up- from steps to active, and even sleep, and it gives an animation when those goals are met, which is pretty satisfying. It has a heart rate monitor, gps, and several workout options. Overall, I feel it has really improved my daily routine. What was a nice bonus is the compatibility with my watch! From answering phone calls, sending texts, and even controlling my music apps, this was much more than I expected. This is a purchase that I won't be regretting.
