New Sensor and Processing Engine The Panasonic S5 IIX features a newly upgraded 24.2MP full-frame CMOS sensor and a powerful L2 image processing engine. A standout feature is its newly-developed Phase Hybrid AF system— a first for Lumix cameras—offering 779 phase-detection points for significantly enhanced subject tracking. With an ISO range of 100-51200, expandable to ISO 50-204800, the sensor excels in various lighting conditions. The camera also supports fast action shooting, with full-resolution capture at up to 9 fps using the mechanical shutter and up to 30 fps with the electronic shutter. Additionally, the S5 IIX incorporates sensor-shift stabilization and offers a High Resolution mode that combines eight exposures into one detailed 96MP image, perfect for static subjects and tripod use, resulting in stunning 12000 x 8000-pixel images.
6K and 4K Video Recording Beyond still photography, the S5 IIX is a powerhouse for video creators, offering full-frame 6K30p recording with 4:2:0 10-bit color for up to 30 minutes, and unlimited recording in DCI and UHD 4K60p 4:2:2 10-bit mode. For high-resolution slow-motion, the camera supports 120p video capture. RAW HDMI output is available via an optional license upgrade. Pre-installed V-Log captures a flat, neutral gamma curve, offering over 14 stops of dynamic range, ideal for precise color grading and seamless integration with footage from Panasonic VariCam cameras.
Inspired by Panasonic’s broadcast cameras, the S5 IIX utilizes Dual Native ISO technology to balance low noise and high sensitivity in diverse lighting conditions. Two dedicated ISO circuits enable flexible shooting: a Low ISO circuit provides base settings of ISO 100, ISO 640 for V-Log, ISO 400 for HLG, and ISO 200 for Cinelike D2/V2. The Low Noise circuit offers ISO 640 for regular use, ISO 4000 for V-Log, ISO 2500 for HLG, and ISO 1250 for Cinelike D2/V2.
Phase Hybrid AF System The S5 IIX debuts Lumix’s first-ever Phase Hybrid AF system, with 779 phase-detection points for fast, precise, and reliable autofocus. This advanced system excels in challenging conditions, including backlit or low-light scenes and crowded environments. Whether capturing stills or video, the camera ensures consistent focus on the intended subject, even in complex scenarios.
Dual I.S. 2 with Active I.S. For stable handheld shooting, the S5 IIX integrates a Dual I.S. 2 stabilization system that compensates for up to 6.5 stops of camera shake, ensuring sharp results. The camera’s newly-developed Active I.S. system enhances stabilization for video, particularly when shooting while walking, providing smoother, more stable footage.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Connectivity Equipped with Bluetooth Low Energy (5.0), the S5 IIX ensures a constant connection with minimal power usage. For more robust wireless functionality, the camera supports IEEE 802.11b/g/n and 802.11a/n/ac for faster file transfers and more efficient remote control. The Lumix Sync app, available for iOS and Android, enables smartphone or tablet-based remote shooting, image transfer, and firmware updates.
