Nikon Z7 II Mirrorless Camera: High-Resolution Performance
Building on the success of its predecessor, the Nikon Z7 II combines advanced processing, enhanced versatility, and familiar ergonomics to deliver exceptional image-making capabilities. Equipped with a 45.7MP FX-format BSI CMOS sensor and dual EXPEED 6 processors, the Z7 II is designed for photographers who demand high resolution and precision.
Second-Generation Z Series
The Z7 II takes Nikon's original Z7 platform and refines it with improved speed, processing power, and versatility, all while maintaining the much-loved features of the first model. The camera’s high-resolution sensor omits an optical low-pass filter to maximize detail capture. Its native ISO range extends down to ISO 64, providing rich, vibrant images even in challenging light. With enhanced processing, the Z7 II achieves faster shooting speeds, including a 10 fps continuous burst mode and a deeper buffer, making it suitable for action-packed scenes. Additionally, the camera supports UHD 4K video recording at 60p, with options for 10-bit external recording using N-Log or HLG for HDR.
45.7MP FX-Format BSI CMOS Sensor and Dual EXPEED 6 Processors
The Z7 II’s 45.7MP BSI CMOS sensor delivers remarkable image quality, offering excellent low-light performance and fast readout speeds for continuous shooting and video capture. The back-illuminated design reduces noise and enhances clarity across a wide ISO range, from a native ISO 64 to 25600. Without an optical low-pass filter, the sensor achieves the sharpest, most detailed images possible. Supporting the sensor are dual EXPEED 6 processors, which provide the power for fast operation, including 10 fps continuous shooting for up to 50 frames in RAW or JPEG.
UHD 4K Video Recording
Beyond stills, the Z7 II excels in video, capable of recording UHD 4K video at up to 60p and Full HD 1080p video at up to 120p for smooth slow-motion footage. You can save video files directly to the memory cards or output uncompressed video to an external recorder via HDMI.
Advanced video features include N-Log gamma for capturing flat footage with maximum dynamic range and HLG (HDR) for shooting HDR-ready content. The camera also supports 10-bit HDMI output, and an Electronic VR function helps stabilize handheld video recording. Other video tools include Focus Peaking for manual focusing, Zebra Stripes to identify overexposed areas, and external audio recording via the 3.5mm microphone jack, with real-time audio monitoring via the headphone jack.
Firmware Enhancements
Firmware version 1.10 adds 60p and 50p frame rate options for UHD 4K recording and enables RAW video output to Blackmagic Design Video Assist recorders. It also improves eye-detection autofocus in Auto-Area AF and Wide-Area AF modes, boosting accuracy in dynamic shooting scenarios.
With the Nikon Z7 II, photographers and videographers alike will enjoy professional-level performance in a compact, versatile system.
